I think it had more to do with believing the science, the experts, and the media. I was very disappointed with the reaction of church leaders but I knew they believed the narrative. I didn't, but most people did. I don't believe many of the things that most people do.

Yup. A mixture of all of those things, to varying degrees.
What it really all boils down to in the end is that most churchians, especially their leaders, fear and respect the power of the secular state more than they fear and respect the power of God.

The deception is that everyone thinks that is referring to somebody else’s church. One thing people seem to not know is most of these denoms are part of the National Council of Churches which is a lib lobby group and your tithe is paying a tithe to them. And they lobby for immigratation, reparations, and gay. Just paying your tithe is defeating you. My church is a loose affiliation of congregation that eschews all organization that would pool money upwards so not a member.
