"When was the last time you heard of a boy being told to walk or look away?"

Telling young men to avoid women who dress like prostitutes has been part of the Church since Solomon wrote Proverbs. But whenever you tell him that today, women complain that it's "slut-shaming". 2/10

When are boys taught "to be protective & self-controlled?"

Our fathers built a civilization replete with propriety & courtesy woven into it to protect women & teach men self-control. The last few generations of women deliberately tore all this down b/c it was "oppressive." 3/10

Many men have tried to rebuild small pieces of this lost propriety for their children, but have met with fierce opposition from women. Even techniques like "bouncing eyes" or "the Billy Graham rule" are derided because they offend women or impose upon them in some way. 4/10

And, of course, modesty is part of this as well. If we are to teach men to look away, they must have somewhere they can look *to*. But once again, any attempts to give them such places are condemned for either telling women how to dress or else for excluding them altogether. 5/10

But we know with absolute certainty that young men are still being taught such things today because we still hear women complaining about young men being taught such things today.

That is the contradiction. That is how we know men's self-control isn't really the issue here. 6/10

Since the Fall, women sinfully desire to control the men in their lives. Naturally, their sexuality is one of the most powerful means at their disposal for doing so, and they don't want it impeded. 7/10

Bingo:

During a series of sermons on Genesis, my pastor remarked once, offhand, that though the sentence in the second half of Genesis 3:16 is usually translated as “Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.”, it actually can be translated as “You will desire to control your husband, but he will rule over you.”, which is how the New Living Translation actually puts it.

Whatever else you may think of propriety & modesty, both represent restrictions on a woman's use of her power.

And yet, without them, women are made vulnerable to men who employ would their own power to use women as they please without regard to how she may feel about it. 8/10

A barbaric woman wants it both ways: She wants no propriety, lest her sexuality be restricted. She also wants propriety, lest evil men simply take what they want.

She does not care about the contradiction. She only knows fried ice must be possible because she wants it. 9/10

Men know better. Men know contradictions aren't real and that self-control is a matter of technique, not magic.

Men must redevelop these techniques without worrying too much when women complain about it. We don't need their permission to honor the weaker vessel. 10/10
