As an aside, it’s amusing to me, the construction of that phrase: “We should treat people”, i.e. a collectivity of humans, “as individuals, not groups”, though considering them as members of a group in the very phrasing; i.e. thinking of people as people, and not just as individuals, is equally legitimate.
