The moment when it was clear a sea change had occurred

23 Nov

Back in August:

That’s right; at the Hillary rally in which she decided to name and shame the ‘alt-right’, someone in her audience yelled, ‘Pepe!‘ when she did so. 🙂

For me, two events define the election. The Pepe incident, and this one:

Alas, looks like Trump is being magnanimous, and not intent on pursuing seeing her ass jailed. I suppose that’s considered statesmanlike…

I’ve already suffered brickbats by telling everyone who broaches the subject that Trump is going to renege on every single one of his campaign promises. The rubes have been gulled yet again. Imagine that …

I suspected he might well renege on many or most or even all, as you may recall:

What if Trump wins, and disappoints?

        The silver lining

It wasn’t so much calling out the alt right as it was the “basket of deplorables” comment.

Everyone, on the left and the right, knew exactly what — and who — she was talking about. It was both a dog whistle and red meat for her base; and a giant “Fuck you” to the “deplorables” she was talking about.

Then the deplorables said “fuck you” right back.

I think a huge part of this election was (1) the Obama coalition of urban blacks not turning out in ’16 in the numbers they did in ’12 and ’08 for Obama (because Hillary is not black); and (2) a whole lot of white people, workers, and disgruntled working class Democrats getting tired of being shit on, disrespected, called names, and being called racist/sexist/homophobic/bigoted at every turn.

The salty language – you can clean up if you want; but I felt was necessary to make the point.

Hey, I use such language here, too; I’d be a hypocrite to not be fine with commenters doing so, too. 🙂

True, the basket of deplorables comment ruined her. I think this moment though was telling, though, in that a member of her audience turned out to be one of those deplorables, and he trolled her beautifully by invoking Pepe. 🙂

This political season is beyond amusing.

Who could have possibly envisioned, ever, that a mythological frog would be the centerpiece of Presidential conversation one day 🙂

      I know, eh?

      It’s been great! 🙂
