Now they’re pushing sexagenarian ‘new’ models upon us, and celebrating them

22 Sep

BBC gushes over Scot woman who starts modelling career at 60:

Gillean McLeod only had her first professional photos taken when she was in her early 50s and her career as a model did not take off until a swimsuit shoot at the age of 60.
The photo for an H&M campaign shows Gillean in a simple black swimsuit, wearing no make-up and with her long white hair hanging down naturally.
When the clothes retailer posted the image on Instagram it quickly went viral, attracting hundreds of thousands of likes.

Yeah, but not by young straight men, I’m sure!

Comes down to demographics and human nature. The populations of Anglosphere countries age more and more yet women will still want men to find them attractive and men will mostly go along with it.
How it will end I don’t know. Perhaps it will reach such an Emperor’s new clothes level of absurdity that even reliable feminists and manginas will unintentionally make remarks that reveal the ridiculousness of pushing old lady models as mainstream or ideal.
After few of these bubble-bursting episodes, we might find ourselves in a saner, more biologically normal situation in which it is taken for granted that men will be interested in women aged from puberty onward.
The model in the article does not appeal to me in the slightest. Some women, a very few, still look good at 60, but clearly, that was not what the BBC was trying to say here.

I worry it will take complete civilizational collapse before we can return to a completely sane, biologically normal situation.

      I hope not, but that’s my fear…

        My fear too.
I’m not aware of any historical parallels to this. Have there been any cultures before now in which old ladies have been promoted as the sexual ideal, as is beginning to happen? Old ladies and gays. Those seem to be increasingly the acceptable choice for males in the English-speaking world. So many goddam ads feature gays and lesbians.
Another ray of hope I like to imagine is that the rest of the world is not as far gone and will call it out, mainly by laughter. In this day and age, it would be hard to hide that completely from the people of the Anglosphere. The BBC could possibly explain it as envy and the Anglohags and Anglocucks might be half convinced for a while, but sooner or later reality will kick in.
        At least I hope so.

I don’t know of any historical parallels, either.

I note that G.K. Chesterton was the first to notice that, in the 20th century, we had arrived at a historical first, a secular religion built around eroticism that, unlike fertility cults of yore, forbids fertility.

Seems very much a death-cult, thus, to me…

I do hope that it doesn’t spread to the whole world…
