A while back, during National Offend a Feminist Week, I shared many images lampooning feminism in general (or at least, bound to offend humourless feminists), as did others, in the discussion.
Recently, I came across this shrieking piece about anti-suffragette postcards, from back in the blessed days before women got the vote.
Naturally, I loved them, and I started searching out other funny anti-suffragette postcards and images. I also found some that were more serious in tone (e.g. photos of suffragettes engaged in vandalism), but I’ve decided to mostly focus on a selection of the funniest ones I found, for everyone’s amusement – and to give the fembots out there an aneurysm, hopefully.

I like the one about the cake in the oven. You’ve got my mind buzzing, I can’t imagine life without women voting. I tried to think of good reasons why women should vote and the first thing that came to mind was abortion and I thought, NOOO!, Then I kept trying and maybe we vote for better education for kids, then about affirmative action (bad). I’m having trouble coming up with good reasons which is rather sad. I also wondered about countries where women don’t get to vote and found that we get to vote in most countries, even China and India. The only ones without women voting seem like Middle Eastern countries and I don’t want to be like them. Women aren’t allowed to vote at the Vatican City either, (do women even live in the Vatican city?) Anyway, I will be racking my brain trying to think of a reason we should keep this privilege, because I like it, even if I don’t know what good it is doing.

Sis, try to imagine life without women voting. I can, and you can, too. The universal vote is a harbinger of the end of the civilized world–the only qualification to vote is you can fog a mirror, so we end up with a manipulated mob. That’s no way to run a country, yet that is how it is run. As we can see all around us, it doesn’t work well, even though most of us believe it’s the best gosh-darned system ever invented.

Australian women don’t seem to have done too much damage with their vote. Generally, they have tended to vote for the conservative side of politics.
Our main anti-feminist contribution is producing a string of hopeless flop female politicians, as object lessons, including two state premiers who just went down to ignominious defeats, and a prime minister who is headed the same way.

SunshineMary, I am not sure, but I think that man is rolling his trouser leg up. I suspect the implication is that he is a Freemason, and rolling their trouser leg up is one of their ritual practices. The postcard might be slyly making the point that women could not join the Masons. The secret society that is. I am not sure, but I suspect they still can’t.
My grandfather was a Mason. He was a Protestant. I am not, so I would not be welcome either.

I tried researching whether there is any organized effort in the U.S. for repealing the 19th amendment. I couldn’t find anything at all. That’s one legal/political campaign I’d love to work on!

I have decided to respectfully disagree with you on this issue. Women may not always vote for the best things, but we should still get to vote simply because it is our country and our voice should be allowed to be heard. For instance, if I wanted to paint our house yellow with polka dots, it would be a bad decision, but it is my house, my husband would get a vote too and he would probably disagree, but he should listen to my opinion and it should be worth something to him. I hope you don’t mind my disagreeing.

That’s interesting, because while we all know feminists and socialists favoured women’s suffrage, I had no idea Mormons did. I wonder if they thought it would increase the Mormon share of the vote? It would only do so, of course, if the sex ratio was skewed heavily in favour of women, in the Mormon community…
Anyway, we are orthodox, Trinitarian Christians here, rather than the kind that Protestants, Roman Catholics, and Eastern Orthodox alike consider heretics (i.e. Mormons, Jehovah’s Witnesses), and I trust no-one will particularly be offended at my inclusion of this, but if so, too bad. For any LDS readers, I ask you to first check your own history, and come back to me with proof that your forebears weren’t collectively suffragists, on the whole, before bitching at me.
