Most of the old unattractive hags also chop off every bit of their hair.

I know; even decent looking older women do, too. It annoys me; shows such disrespect for their men (if they have one, or contempt for the rest of men’s opinions); all women look better naturally with long hair. Since men almost universally (in our culture) find longer hair more attractive on women, it is disregard for our feelings to chop it off. Like wearing sweatpants and a hoodie out and about, rather than a nice dress, or shirt and skirt ensemble.

    Hey, Will.

Some women truly don’t know how horrible the chopped hair looks and their men won’t say a word. I have a friend, who even in her early 50’s still has gorgeous red hair. Year before last after Christmas break she showed back up at co-op with her hair chopped off, and she did it herself! I was speechless. i wanted to say something but I didn’t.

One day I had an opening in the natural flow of a conversation and I said, “You look so much younger and prettier with your hair longer.” She said no one bothered to tell her that it didn’t look good. Just the opposite in fact, and her husband hadn’t said anything. So she grew it back, even though the weight and burden of caring for it was what inspired her to cut it in the first place.

If friends (and husbands!) would be more direct about that terrible middle aged haus frau look, more women would eschew it.

    Hey Elspeth,

That’s true; all too often, husbands and friends are afraid to say anything.

    That must stop.

Some women truly don’t know how horrible the chopped hair looks and their men won’t say a word.

Even if their men did say something, most would respond with something along the lines of “it’s MY hair, I’m tired of caring for it, and I’M CUTTING IT OFF!”

It’s really just a roundabout, perhaps even subconscious way of saying “I don’t care that you care what I look like. What’re you gonna do, divorce me?”

Here’s hoping the artist receives improved scenery! After his job’s done. :O)

Suppose a woman’s husband thinks she looks better with shorter hair — what should she do? Just wondering.
