“The aim of public education is not to fill the young of the species with knowledge and awaken their intelligence. The aim is simply to reduce as many individuals as possible to the same safe level, to breed and train a standardized citizenry, to put down dissent and originality.” –H. L. Mencken
The scrolled diploma in the picture might as well be a roll of toilet paper (it’s probably for a degree in something like Women’s Studies or Sociology).
@ BoB: Mencken was right about a hell of a lot of things.
@ feeriker: Exactly! Except IMO a roll of toilet paper is actually worth more than such – and even better suited to its actual purpose than a scratchy sharp-edged paper diploma would be. 😉
When I look at photos (of my nephew and his friends) at University I reflect that 100 years ago he and his ilk would have been in the trenches. One might thus easily mistake Uni with its endless Societies and other activities for a four year holiday camp with women thrown in.

This needs to be posted on billboards and as posters in workplaces all across North America. Hell, it would make a great t-shirt too.

Yep, that about sums it up.
