Yikes!
Diamond engagement rings are a scam.
(A scam they’re trying to foist onto women and homos, too…)
Fortunately, man-made ones are becoming cheaper…

Jewelry has a very low saleback rate. I have seen too many men spend craploads of money on a ring – only to have the ring end up in the trash by a vindictive and irrational woman.
I have never once heard of any man throwing such worthless trinkets away though. All the men I know who have undergone a divorce always pawn their rings…
Anniversary rings are also a scam.

Yes, because the cost of diamonds is artificially inflated, by De Beers et al; and because De Beers et al. discourage resale, and so keep the resale value very low. It’s all a giant scam, and everyone in the jewelry industry is complicit, in price-setting. I hope one day the near-monopoly of De Beers will be smashed, and the industry revolutionized, and the price of diamonds drop to a decent, fair market value, rather than being inflated way beyond what it should be – for Pete’s sake, it’s just carbon, like graphite or charcoal.
