We used to educate the ignorant.
But in today’s enlightened (i.e. benighted) age, up is down, black is white, etc. We now know that to educate the ignorant is to denigrate them. Now, we dumb down everyone else instead.
Many years ago, I spent some time in the Caribbean. I was fascinated by the dialect. If there aren’t words for nuanced ideas, there can be no nuanced conversation. Put another way, if “yay mon” means just about everything, it also doesn’t mean very much at all.

Hmmmm. I can see the efficacy of broadcasting instructional lessons in understanding Pidgin (in the same way that I think it’s very useful for the intelligent remnant to be able to understand Moron [assuming that these two dialects, Pidgin and Moron, are not, de facto, one and the same]).
But to give it linguistic and cultural sanction by broadcasting and publishing useful and important information in it? That’s a sign of surrender to the nihilist enemy in the Culture War. By acceding to this, the BBC has completely relinquished any residual right to being taken seriously.
Prediction: if they survive the market forces that, absent government intervention, demand their demise that should have already occurred, the “Big Four” here in the USSA (ABC, CBS, Fox, and NBC) will soon begin broadcasting programs in Ebonics. Maybe even also in other “invader” languages.

I agree. Pidgin / Creole / Patois are spoken “languages” (notice my quotation marks, because I don’t consider them real ones), not written ones; it’s appalling to see an organization like the BBC try to legitimize them by writing news stories in such vernacular.
Even in those countries in Africa, they don’t do that; if you ever read African news websites from officially-English-speaking countries there, they write in the Queen’s English, as it should be.
Oh dear; Ebonics. I can just see it now:
#BlackLivesMatta! 😉

True, I do salute Africans for remaining mostly socially conservative.
{facepalm} That’s not a rigorous, scientific proof. That’s on the level of Neil deGrasse Tyson, were he not a prog.
