Does WоrdPrеѕѕ put its thumb on the scales?

30 Jun

I have a rough feel for how many pageviews this blog will accrue on a given day, based on how many posts I put up, when I put them up, what kinds of subject matter the posts are about, etc. It’s not an exact science, but for the most part, people who read and comment at Patriactionary are as much creatures of habit as I am, and so there are patterns, normal ebbs and flows.

On average, if I post ten times in a given day, I can usually expect roughly around a thousand pageviews.

When I post more than ten posts in a day, pageviews can suddenly go way higher. If, on a subsequent day, I post a bit less, there may still be a fair number of posts, more than there might be on another day with little posting, because people are carrying on convos, back and forth, from the day before, etc.

Weirdly, though, today has been anomalous, despite a fair degree of engagement and commenting from folks throughout the morning and afternoon. That is to say, the amount of pageviews has been far lower than average, and I can’t help but wonder, if, like Twitter, there are some folks at WordPress who don’t like seeing reactionary blogs getting views, and wish to make it seem like there are fewer visits than there are.

I know KMG has reported at Twitter how many followers he gains and loses has seemed quite odd to him, in that his count has stayed quite stable even when someone well known like Steve Sailer retweets him, and he gets a bunch of new followers; suddenly, for no apparent reasons, long-time followers unfollow him, then later re-follow him and tell him they don’t know why their accounts were made to stop following him, but, against their wishes and intents, that happened.

Seems pretty obvious people at Twitter don’t like reactionary Twitter accounts getting too popular, and mess with the numbers and/or people’s settings.

Anyone else with a WоrdPrеѕѕ blog notice weird things, too, as I think I have been?

You have to assume they are liars until proven innocent.

In defense, you can’t compete with the weather, and it has been glorious. Do you notice a spike up in September? It may not be WordPress, but I have noticed inactivity on my street. There might be a lot of weirdness going on with Covid restrictions being lifted and, yet, we are headed into a recession.
That is enough personal rambling thoughts for now.

It’s been nice here too, weatherwise, and people have been out and about a lot more now. It feels so back to normal, it’s hard to believe a deep recession or even depression may be around the corner.

      Ah.

I haven’t been over there yet last day or two, will take a look. Sometimes I just read posts in my inbox, before I have a chance to visit myself.

Two more thoughts. One, we are on the eve of your nation’s birthday. Two, the US will be celebrating the same on Monday.
    May I be the first.
    Happy birthday, Canada!

I believe it was you who expressed shock that I knew of Corb Lund. If you listen to this a few times, you realize the author is not American nor British. Canada does have a national identity. I am one of those that used to watch a lot of the History Channel too.

Corb Lund is great, too! I have most of his albums. 🙂

At Sigma Frame, I noticed that some long time readers quit and add frequently. Amerika keeps disappearing from my reader. I wouldn’t be surprised if a disgruntled WP employee is trying to keep themselves amused.

I don’t know about WordPress, but I do think that the search engines may be acting funny. I just did a Brave search to get here — “patriactionary blog wordpress.” Your site didn’t show on the first few pages — by which time I was annoyed. I then tried Yandex, and, naturally, it was the first result. I think this is a new situation. Sad about Brave, though . . . maybe it has to do with its dependence on other engines . . . I’m not sure.

I often click through to here from Reaction Times (http://neorxn.com/) which seems to be down at the moment, might make a difference…

      Ah.

I’m one of those oddballs who tends to go directly to sites I like to visit, rather than clicking through to them from others’ blogs – apart from those who link in their comments to their own blogs, here. 🙂

Also WordPress.com has too much intrusive tracking advertising and our content is much prone to censorship considering the nature of topics we cover.

I am looking to move out, but paying for hosting and domain without risk of self-doxxing seems very hard even with crypto since crypto exchanges require kyc to purchase crypto in the first place.

I am a frequent reader but sometimes I get tired of all the advertising here and take a break from it.

Since there are so many advertisements you might as well add in a view counter for good measure; then you can compare your count with WordPress. Note they might legitimately count differently (if user refreshes page, does that count?)
