That’s a really good piece at MoA.
In terms of economic independence, Russia might be the most independent country on Earth.
In terms of economic influence I think recent events have shown Russia is in the top ten, possibly top five influential countries.
Putin as mob godfather is simply the GAE projecting its own nature on him and his people.

I tried to figure out what Dmitry Medvedev was about to say, thinking it was going to be profound, but I ran into a brick wall on Twitter and I can’t read a word of Russian. Of course, it could have been something childish like, “They’re a bunch of doo-doo heads” which would also be truthful. đ
