If Paternal Authority over family is inherently tyrannical so is parenthood.

That is the ‘logic’ they deploy…

Well, they don’t “belong” to their families. Their parents have been entrusted by God with their care and nourishing. We do wish more parents reflected on the seriousness of that and were MORE restrictive of government intrusion on that sacred charge.

Of course you’re right, electricangel. The argument is ultimately about stewardship more than ownership (at least from our side). Her argument is that, being god, the state owns your family.

Because whenever they say “community” or “society”, what they really mean is “the state”.

Most American parents have no qualms whatsover with the idea of their offspring belonging to the State. They want as little to do with their children as possible as it is, and sure the hell don’t want to be responsible for raising them. If Big Brother wants to be on the hook for that, American Dad and Mom are more than delighted to let it be his burden.

If the government is parenting my children, how do I call DFS on the people that run DFS?
Where is Karen when I need her?

    Have you seen this, Will?

Seems like the late Rev. Falwell might have needed some help from the village. I know the sphere will appreciate little Jerry’s accusations against his mom (they’re probably true), but it feels like a cop-out to me.

      Hey Elspeth, no I hadn’t.

      Ugh.

I just dislike that whole family, all of them…

Hasn’t this been tried before? Didn’t it fail miserably? I think Hillary was the last one to say that “It takes a village”. I do shudder to think what public school would do to children if given carte blanche. As for CPS, they promptly lose half the kids they steal from parents and no one knows where they go.
This is a very bad idea.

WILL how does this speech from afew years back, fit in the it-takes-a-village conversation!?
    ”The Enemy Within
“A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear. The traitor is the plague.” –Marcus Tullius Cicero, 106 BC – 43 BC”
THAT sums up MOST of the last 40-60 years of the west, yes?
