wait, you mean I can buy bus tickets online? I can order a cab via an app? my water doesn't shut off at random points? the sky isn't perpetually cloudy? my Internet isn't one step above dialup? holy shit why did I waste my time in Europe

I am glad for Matt. Years ago, I got to decide what beer went into a retail cooler. When I had the domestics covered, I made sure that we had a full selection of Mexican beer because I felt they wanted American business, unlike Western Europe. What is funny is that the Mexican kitchen help wouldn’t buy it, but Anglos would. Go figure.

Years ago, I visited my mom’s country in the Caribbean, and was enjoying trying local rum.
All the locals in my acquaintance there (family, friends) were snobs, and asked me why I was drinking that crap.
They all preferred scotch, more for status than any other reason. They couldn’t tell you the difference between a single malt and a blended malt; it was like rappers buying Hennessy and Armagnac, not because they were connaisseurs but because of its status…

It might be a little more involved for Mexicans. Down there, they might work half a day to buy a six pack of Mexican beer, In the US, they can cover a twelve pack of domestic beer with an hour’s work. They do come up here and get lonely and drink.

I met a tourist who was in Mexico and he said Corona beer in Mexico is called Gringo beer. I asked some Mexican guest workers years later and they confirmed this. Locals do not drink Corona unless they are a bum.

Dos Equis is a much better beer than Corona.

All that can be said for it is that it is a very successful export. I don’t drink, but it does seem to be about as light as domestic premium beer. That is pretty light.

On the other hand, he is comparing to Serbia…
But I wish him luck and I am looking forward to his future reports.

Dollar Vigilante certainly makes life in Mexico look appealing in his videos.
It probably helps that he’s done very well financially.

Fred Reed has praised Mexico for years, saying most Americans have a distorted view of it.

We are not living through 1984. Today, it’s Harrison Bergeron!
