There are more uneducated morons in Canada on Twitter than non-morons; they’ve made a place name misspelling trend, but not the original, correct spelling; it’s not trending at all in the slightest

You people who don’t know how to spell ‘Beirut‘ but bloviate about “thoughts and prayers” about it are pathetic.

Return whence thou camest.

As the culture deteriorates language goes south along with it. I am often struck by how often words like “awesome” or “epic” are used to describe really quite mediocre people or acts that rate as a little above average in skill or outcome. The proper use of “too” and “to” has been largely lost and spelling is fast reverting to what it was prior to the mid-19th century – a kind of weird best guess based on how the word sounded seems to be the rule for many. Also vulgarity and outright profanity are now quite normal in everyday usage indicating a general coarsening at just about every level of society. Add to this the odd shorthand often used on the net and it isn’t uncommon to see scribbling that used to be attributable to children or the retarded presented as profound.
