29 Jul

Giuliani cleaned up downtown New York; de Blasio seems determined to let it decay to previous levels…

    It’s not all Bill de Blasio. I think a lot of it the NYPD has brought on themselves. The greater public sees them as government hired goons selectively enforcing laws that benefit someone else and not the community. They see them violating parking laws incessantly and every code related to driving imaginable. This is what happens when the general public sees the police as out of and beyond control.

      Oh, I’m sure some of it is on Bloomberg before him. 😉

      Ah, not everything is about the police, fuzzy.

        George Floyd’s murder changed the public’s perception of police everywhere, even overseas. This has been building for a long time. How the public sees the police is fundamental to good order or chaos. Would they be shooting up in public if the police were respected?

    This has ALWAYS been the real NYC. What we’ve seen for the last 30 years, starting with Giuliani and continuing through the first part of the DiBlabbio regime, has been a mask that has finally deteriorated and fallen off.

      I thought Giuliani was a vast improvement over Dinkins, and I’d always understood that he cleaned up Times Square.

      But yeah, for most of its history, NYC has been misgoverned.

        @Will S.

        Guiliani merely moved the problem to prison who can then be released. If he instead put a lot more of them to death. That would be vastly better.
