I don’t do Twitter or Gab or Parler or Facebook or Instagram or Tumblr etc.

    No social media for me…

NextDoor is OK. But anything meant to monetize eyeballs is a scam. If you’re not paying for it, you’re not a customer: you’re the product.

What happened to Gab? I thought that was the alternative one popular among the dissident right.

NextDoor is as pozzed and converged as any other social media. Badthink gets you spanked and time-outted.

I won’t do social media because, even if they start out as what seems to be a viable alternative to the “mainstream” SM apps, they quickly become subverted and converged. I fear that this will happen to both Gab and Parler, which are being pushed as non-converged alternatives to Twitter. Better to not invest in the first place if they can’t guarantee their own integrity.

Parler requires a phone number so no anonymity.

Parler also has a privacy clause about Soc Security numbers and has started banning content they don’t like.

Hopefully these “alternative” social media platforms will discover very quickly that if they can’t offer anything different from the competition, they’ll never survive. They have no other raison d’etre.

        I hope so.

There’s an actual business opportunity for anyone smart enough and based enough – or at least apolitical – to take it, as long as they do it alone without hiring a team which may lead to SJWs taking over…

I was on twitter for a short while. I can honestly say, I was measurably happier once i cancelled my account. Social media literally makes you depressed.

Yes, I belonged to Twitter back in the day, but I quit – though I suppose you wouldn’t know it from how much I still pay attention to it, visiting a few users I like.

But I much prefer just lurking now to participating actively.

To the non-leftist, Twitter is mainly useful as a barometer of just how insane the world is going. THAT would certainly have me depressed in no time at all.

        It is depressing, indeed…

But, it’s also encouraging, to see how many others are taking note of how insane things are getting…

The question is, how long until it is suborned? We do have a problem here that can’t be addressed by successive platforms.

    Vox weighs in:

One has to ask: do the owners of these outlets seriously believe that, now more than ever, they’re not under a microscope, that no one is looking at their TOS and noticing the difference between what they say and what they do?
