The article never explains which Designated Victim Groups are the killjoys. But you can see the Logic of Minoritarianism at work: the more children want to celebrate Halloween and the fewer children who don’t, the bigger the veto given to the minority.

Personally, as a Christian, I shun Halloween as a pagan holiday. But yeah, I see the point here. In fact, pagan holiday that it is, I’m not only shocked that the Proggies aren’t enthusiastically embracing it, but that they’re not taking it to its historic extremes and forcing us non-believers to participate in the rituals.

I do, too, for the same reason. But I also see it as part of our Western cultural inheritance, and despite being pagan, it is attacked because it is western and not non-Western.

Yeah, from that perspective it’s like celebrating Christmas by centering it around Santa Claus and commercialism instead of celebrating it around the birth of Jesus.

I have read somewhere an essay that purported to debunk the theory that Christmas is derived from Saturnalia / Sol Invictus / whatever.
Not that it matters to me, any more than that Easter is supposed to incorporate pagan fertility rituals.
Once ‘baptized’, they are twisted to the point that true pagans like our interlocutor shun them as inauthentic, which pretty much means they’re now ours more than theirs.
I still prefer to observe Reformation Day on October 31, though. Hey, it’s the one authentically Protestant observance… 🙂

Funny, Halloween (originally, All Hollow’s Eve – the day before All Saints Day) was a thoroughly Christian holiday that went off the rails. It’s one holiday we can accuse pagans of appropriating from Christians. I say pagans, but most likely candy and costume manufacturers appropriated it.
