Liberty’s Window: The Case Against Daylight Savings Time

12 Mar

Hear, hear!

While I’ve never had particularly strong feelings about daylight savings time, this guy makes the case against it rather well, IMO.

I especially like his pointing out the absurdity that now ‘standard’ time, which you would think by the name ‘standard’ is the ‘standard, is only four months of the year, while the majority of the year is now spent on non-‘standard’ time…

And I also like his closing paragraph about if any case can be made for lengthening the hours of daylight in the afternoon / evening, wouldn’t winter be a more logical choice than summer?

Anyway, I do admire the spirit of places like Saskatchewan and Arizona that reject Daylight Savings Time, and I’m inclined to say, as a reactionary, let’s go back to what we had before this wartime and/or agrarian practice and return to standard time, year round.

No, we can never abolish a government law, rule or regulation. It’s important for the sheeple to know that Uncle Sam can and will control everything in their lives.

As someone else quipped, AOC will probably submit legislation to set the clock back 2 hours so we have more night and there will be less solar heating of the atmosphere.

      Ha! 🙂

Sadly, I think it’s like income tax, or any other ‘temporary’ government measure: here to stay, whether or not it makes sense…

Why not, feeriker? It will just help alienate her further from middle Americans! Win-win! 🙂

They have decided to abolish DST in EU, but it somehow got delayed till over 2 years, I think. Russia abolished it some time ago. I was always against it, but now that it’s supposedly going out, I have decided that I’ll miss it:)

I hope they do it, and set a precedent for it.

The one good thing that comes from it here is the twice-a-year reminder to check smoke detector batteries that fire departments piggyback onto the change-the-clocks thing. But they could just do that at New Year’s and the first day of summer, instead…

Whether here in North America or in Western Europe, I’m pretty sure that the odds of Daylight Savings Time ever being abolished by any government are in inverse proportion to 1) the demands of the people to have it abolished, or 2) the amount of damage and disruption to health and wellbeing that it is determined to cause.

I didn’t realize that Saskatchewan didn’t do DST either. Good for them! And here I thought only Hawaii stood with us Arizonans in refusing to practice this circadian rhythm-destroying stupidity…

Yes. I forgot about Hawaii, but then I have never been there, whereas I have been to Saskatchewan and Arizona…

EU parliament actually voted to abolish it, but they somehow managed to delay implementation.
