Awesome article, I wrestled with libertarianism for so long and I think the problem is that there some projects that require a longer time horizon than the market economy can provide. Once you sell out those projects that guarantee your independence you can’t buy them back.

If I would be tasked to sum up the most “wrong” thing about libertarians, it would be their failure to realize that a libertarian social order could not be achieved with libertarianism.

Indeed – and not maintained through it, either.

Libertarianism is the perfect social order – if you are white, of Northwestern European stock, and above all, well-educated, and self-sufficiently wealthy.

In other words, the top five percent of the population.

If you’re not part of that demographic, libertarians pretty much are unaware of your existence, or at best indifferent to it.

I’m not a huge fan of our government of subsidizing companies but for simplicity/speed sake they have to think about how long it takes to get steel for tanks/ships over feeling good. Not to virtue signal but I am one of the few libertarians that understands that things like the NDAA/various emergency acts are a necessity. I can’t grandstand on it and the vast majority of the FK/voluntaryist types think that their “high bar” is the only bar.

Good on you. It’s one thing to want the State to be minimally obtrusive in the lives of its citizens; I’m all for that… It’s another to say the State serves no good purpose whatsoever. Nations have borders, and need militaries to defend them, and governments must control legal immigration and work to prevent / reverse illegal immigration. A nation that doesn’t defend its borders is not a nation any longer. Militaries need steel indeed for tanks and ships etc., and governments ought to procure as high quality and as cheap materials for equipment as possible, arriving as quickly as possible, however they go about that…
