Don’t call it a ‘BluesFest’ if the majority of the artists performing there aren’t blues musicians

Call it PopularMusicOfVariousUnrelatedDifferentGenresFest or whatever else; don’t ride the coat-tails of a musical tradition that you clearly cared nothing about, and were okay with smothering and covering with music (or even hip-hop) not even remotely related to the original purpose of the event, just to make more money.

It’s amazing how common “bait and switch” has become, in all institutions of society (including that institution where many of us spend our Sunday mornings).

I know, right? And that’s the worst one, because so few seem to catch that. Wolves in sheep’s clothing, indeed…

(As with regards to these, everyone knows that they’re not true Bluesfests; was just talking with a colleague about the local one today, and he observed exactly the same thing, unprompted, and I agreed with him of course. Why we accept that, and don’t demand more honesty in naming, and / or fidelity in keeping to the original goals, as still is the case in some places I’ve lived that have true Bluesfests, I don’t know…)
