Ontario is Ford Nation

{pause indefinite hiatus / un-shun}

Yeah.

Ford and his Tories won all of rural southern Ontario (from the southwest to the east) and much of suburbia; that was enough for an overwhelming majority.

The NDP won in both their traditional strongholds and other urban areas that usually would go Liberal, so they will form the Opposition.

The Grits were utterly crushed, and will lose party status, but they’ll probably bounce back and the NDP will lose support.

It’ll be interesting.

Still annoyed at Ford for kicking out so-con activist and leadership rival Tanya Granic Allen, without whose support he wouldn’t have won the leadership in the first place, and thus signalling how unimportant social issues will be for him, despite actively courting Christians’ and religious minorities’ vote. I didn’t expect Ford to be anything but a populist free-marketer, but might have been nice to have been thrown a bone or two.

Sorry that the Green leader won a seat but the farther-right so-con Trillium Party lost its only seat.

Still, after 15 years of misrule by Grits, finally a Tory regime in Ontario again.

I’ll take Mike Harris Part II, with a touch of Trump populism.

Happy days are here again.

For now, at least.

And may this be the beginning of the end for Le Trou D’Eau, too…

    Mike Harris is a tough act to repeat.

    15 years of corruption and rule by the dumbest in society will be tough to overcome.

    Jay Currie has noted that this election saw voter turnout shoot up after a long period of decline. Clearly, Ontarians have had more than enough of the Grits, at least for the immediate future. I would suggest, that as with the Trump victory in the United States two years ago, this shows a growing unwillingness to swallow the media line. The media, aka the Liberal Party’s disinformation bureau, conducted a savage campaign against Ford, which intensified greatly in the last week before the election. It appears to have majorly backfired. That can only be a good thing.

      Exactly. Even getting his sister-in-law to try to sabotage him failed to generate the desired response in the public. Oops! 🙂
