Kushner administration defends President Kushner

29 May

Naturally…

Donald Trump has come out in support of his son-in-law Jared Kushner, following reports the aide tried to set up a secret communication line with Moscow.

In a statement given to the New York Times, Mr Trump praised the “great job” Mr Kushner is doing.

But he did not directly address allegations made against the man married to his eldest daughter, Ivanka.

It is claimed Mr Kushner discussed setting up a back channel with the Russian ambassador in December.

The New York Times and Washington Post said he wanted to use Russian facilities to avoid US interception of discussions with Moscow. He is reported to have done so before Mr Trump assumed the presidency, so would have been a private citizen at the time.

After gushing over the Saudi and Israeli regimes while needlessly bashing Iran, and criticizing NATO allies in Europe, Trump is back to doing what’s most important to him, doing anything for Daddy’s Little Girl and hubby.

I might, time permitting, be compelled to make a list of Trump’s campaign promises to us “little people –you know, the ones that, like, got him elected– and then check in at 90-day intervals to see if he’s acted on any of them. After posting the results, I’ll just sit back and wait for the latest round of excuses from the Chumps For Trump (the ones who still cheerlead, anyway).

There is nothing illegal, immoral or unethical about what Jared Kushner is accused of doing on behalf of then President-elect Trump.

I’m no fan of Kushner, but that’s no reason to accuse him of doing something wrong when there is no reason to believe that he did something wrong.

Don’t get me wrong; I am not making the stupid accusations of the left, and I don’t share their desire to see Trump fail or get impeached or whatever, but I’m just noticing how high a priority it is for Trump to defend Kushner, more than he defended Flynn, Conway, or anyone else. I’m just still annoyed by the influence Kushner and Ivanka have on Trump, ever since he caved and decided to bomb Syria, and start threatening North Korea and Iran. IOW, they’ve got him turned into just another Establishment Republicrat.

That’s what annoys me… I’d almost allowed myself to believe he was going to be different. Turns out he wasn’t. I knew he’d ultimately let us down – see my “what if he lets us down?” posts from a year or two ago, way before the election – but I was hoping for more.

Trump must defend Kushner because Kushner was acting in behalf of Trump. If Kushner goes down, Trump does too. That wasn’t the case with Flynn.

As for “letting us down,” he’s only been in office for a few months and, during those months, he’s been attacked like no other president in history. Give the man a chance.
