Texting pedestrian lanes, serious and/or half-joking

19 Jun

Utah Valley University has recently installed texting lanes for distracted walkers.

Recently, a cellphone company in Antwerp, Belgium painted ‘text walking lanes’ on sidewalks there, as a marketing stunt.

Last year, the Chinese city of Chongqing introduced a cellphone lane for pedestrians, on a stretch of sidewalk.

On April Fool’s Day, 2012, in Philadelphia, the city council jokingly introduced ‘e-lanes’, as an April Fool’s joke.

Joking aside, one wonders if such could become a wider reality; doesn’t seem entirely far-fetched, IMO…

We need a texting lane in the street for drivers who text. I was behind another such idiot on the way home yesterday.

Ha! I don’t understand how anyone can be so clueless as to think one can text and drive safely. Walking is one thing; operating a vehicle is another.

Better yet, how about whole roads reserved for texting drivers? That way, when they cause the inevitable Darwinian accidents, they don’t shut down traffic flow for hours on end.

Lanes for texters; lanes for women; lanes for non-texting men. 😉

Might as well combine the lanes for women and texters.

The Seattle City Council announced today that it would paint crosswalks as Rainbow Flags in honor of ‘Pride Week’.
