New Fox TV Drama ‘Lucifer’ to Glamorize Devil as ‘Charming’ Nightclub Owner in ‘City of Angels’.

A new television drama to be released by Fox next year will seek to glamorize the devil in a hypothetical story about Satan’s earthly life as the owner of a posh nightclub in America’s City of Angels.
“Bored and unhappy as the Lord of Hell, Lucifer Morningstar has abandoned his throne and retired to L.A., where he owns Lux, an upscale nightclub,” a description of the series reads on the Fox website.
“Charming, charismatic and devilishly handsome, Lucifer is enjoying his retirement, indulging in a few of his favorite things—wine, women and song—when a beautiful pop star is brutally murdered outside of Lux,” it continues. “For the first time in roughly 10 billion years, he feels something awaken deep within him as a result of this murder. Compassion? Sympathy? ”
Lucifer then becomes involved to help solve the murder mystery with his demonic influence, and is torn between good and evil as he is summoned back to Hell by a dark winged angel who speaks on behalf of God.
“As they work together to solve the pop star’s murder, Lucifer is struck by [the detective] Chloe’s inherent goodness,” Fox explains. “Accustomed to dealing with the absolute worst of humanity, Lucifer is intrigued by Chloe’s apparent purity and begins to wonder if there’s hope for his own soul yet.”
“[C]an the devil incarnate be tempted toward the side of good, or will his original calling pull him back toward evil?” the network asks.
Pffft. How utterly stupid a premise. But hey, if people will buy a 100-year-old vampire dating high school girls, they may buy anything…
While some have opined that the drama is harmless entertainment, noting that it is based on a story line in DC Comics
Ah; figures. There have been a few comics with Satanic / hell themes turned into movies in recent years, like Hellboy and Spawn.
others state that glamorizing Satan before impressionable minds sends the wrong message about the demonic.
“It was only a matter of time before Hollywood gave the devil a prime time television show on a big network,” wrote Joe Schimmel of Good Fight Ministries and host of the documentary “Hollywood’s War on God” in an online post this week. “After all, for the last several years, Hollywood has portrayed everyone from meth dealers to sexual deviants as ‘cool,’ while depicting Jesus as a cuss word!”
He said that the television show appears to suggest a number of false ideas about the devil, including that he is lording over Hell as ruler, and that he is a benevolent, in vogue being.
“Satan is not in the business of kindly helping the LAPD solve crimes,” Schimmel explained. “Rather, he and his demonic minions are busy inspiring the most heinous crimes imaginable. Jesus said, ‘He was a murderer from the beginning,’ (John 8:44) and comes ‘to steal and kill and destroy.’ (John 10:10)”
The pastor of Blessed Hope Chapel in Simi Valley, Calif. said that viewers should be told the truth about the malevolent and destructive nature of the devil.
“We should warn those who will be watching Fox’s Lucifer, who are seduced into thinking that he is a ‘cool guy,’ about his truly diabolical nature and malicious designs (2 Corinthians 2:11),” Schimmel stated. “They need to know that Satan hates them and his desire is to drag them down to Hell with him.”

Muslims have their own musical traditions; much different from ours, and yet not as foreign-sounding to my ears as Indian, which doesn’t sound as foreign to me as East Asian. But I am a Westerner, so naturally, everything alien is less musical to my ears, to varying degrees, depending on the cultural distance. (Yes, I am half East Indian by race, but culturally I am completely Canadian.)
As for the Devil, I would suspect that the Devil very much would like to encourage some forms of music, ones that have lyrics and/or a beat that promote evil, rather than good. But I have no idea of the personal tastes of the Enemy, music-wise, or whether a fallen angel even cares about any music humans make. Nor do I care about such; I only care about only the impact that evil ‘music’ (since some of it, like gangsta rap, can hardly be called music) which the Devil might like to see prosper, has on society.

I have no doubt that they’ll screw up the comic, but find some rest in the fact that the comic did not portray Lucifer as a hero or even a likeable character. He was merely the character the comics followed. He comes off as a furious child rebelling against anything because he cannot be master of the universe and hence his own destiny. My biggest concern is that the show will screw up the generally right-headed approach of the comics.

This was bound to happen. This culture has been a trajectory of turning everything good into something evil—and vice-versa—that it was only a matter of time before Satan became the national hero, while Jesus’ name is not even allowed to be spoken in public venues.

Of course. I was being sarcastic. Then again its probably because of the feminization of the church that women are often portrayed as angels while men are portrayed as demons.
Hence I find devils and demons more masculine than angels at least according to portrayals in pop culture.
The masculine good however is non-existent and the men who are portrayed good are often effeminate.
Hence strangely demons and devils are more relatable.

It’s the same way black American ghetto thug culture, as exemplified by ‘gangsta’ rap, gets a free pass from liberals – and the men get to be hypermasculine, but alas, not good, in the least.

To a point, except in this movie, the tattooed bikers are heroes, and the dads are zeroes.

Only the Goodness of Chloe (i.e., of woman) can save Lucifer… and save us all. It wasn’t until the devil met her that he realized blah blah blah.
Please his father in heaven? Neh. Doesn’t even rate. Obey Christ, who was given authority over him? How boring, passé, and unexciting. The only thing that matters is CHLOE. It is Detective Chloe — taking a break from busting Perpetrators over at Special Victims Unit, and making the world safe for chloeys everywhere! — whose wonderfulness leads and redeems poor Lucifer.
Quite the Law ‘n Order tag-team.

Makes sense, and that’d be a significant part of the propaganda and manipulative value. Modern masculinity can only be found (or allowed) as part of the demonic. Pretty subtile!
E.g. I generally enjoyed the first Hellboy movie, good writing and production, and as you comment, at least a bit of masculinity was expressed. So we are drawn in, even though the word hell is appended to heroism and goodness. Of course in the Eighties and Nineties American culture began to embrace the demonic as ‘cool’ — black clothes, death-heads, death-music, etc.
But the dangers of such films are obvious. Note that in both the Hellboy series, and in the New Improved Lucifer jive, the ‘good guys’ are in alliance with government. In the latter, the female heroine is an overt agent and enforcer of civil law.
I don’t think it leads to Jesus.

And the fact that the devil portrayed with goat horns and have a pitchfork was originally meant to mock him. Except that later Christians did not seem to get that message.
If Satan comes. He comes as an angel of light, most beautiful of all creatures that god has made.

I used to believe that, but I don’t any longer. The way our culture elevates the disgusting, the perverted, the victim cult; and depreciates everything beautiful, good, and desirable I think Satan would likely appear in all the hideousness of his evil and be welcomed with open arms by those with whom he ‘identifies’.
