Tories win majority in Britain, but Scotland goes SNP

08 May

Well, that was full of surprises…

I’m sorry to see that the UKIP didn’t do better. Guess Britons don’t mind tyranny from Brussels…

Or a ‘Conservative’ regime that isn’t conservative at all – much like Canada’s government – or the Republican Party, Stateside…

The Scots have decided they’re Quebecois – they voted ‘no’ in the referendum to secede, but now have elected a nationalist party to represent them.

Idiots.

Guess they want a few decades of constitutional paralysis, and pointless bickering with the rest of the country.

They could have observed what happened in Canada in the last half-century, and avoided that, but no, they turned out to be idiots just like our own.

Oh well. All I can say is, ’twill be amusing to this Canadian to watch Britain go down the same damned roads we’ve already been down…

I was rooting for the dismantling of the Trident nuclear deterrent, but alas Labour chose such a weirdo to run as their candidate they didn’t stand much of a chance. The British public are staunchly left wing so it makes sense they get to choose from two feckless left wing parties.

Actually, I must beg to differ here. I would actually say that the Caledonians are being smart in this case. Think about it.

Genuine independence would force the Scots to become fully responsible for their own economic and sociopolitical infrastructure, something that apparently even the densest and most doltish among them realizes that they’re incapable of. Without welfare candy from London to keep them afloat, they are well and truly fucked, fishing and North Sea oil, the only two dimensions to their economy, not a self-sustaining economy making (I will give all due credit to Wales, the land of my paternal ancestry, for being populated by creatures at least smart enough to realize the extent of their socialist corruption and economic hopelessness, and thus not being reckless enough to make a serious bid for autonomy. Plaid Cymru knows where the line between patriotic nationalism and suicide is drawn).

As for the Scots, the status quo is ideal, just as it is for Puerto Ricans and Quebecois: stop short of actual independence, but maintain a loud and boisterous nationalist faction that is all talk and no action, being able to continue to milk the colonial occupier’s teat while whinging that it’s not only never enough, but that the welfare milk is toxic and addicting at the same time. A real win-win. What other outcome could possibly be more desirable?

    @ Mark: Alas…

@ feeriker: True, the Quebecois played that game successfully for decades, but it doesn’t work now any more; as a result of English-Canadians stopping giving a shit, Quebeckers have quieted down.

It’s just like Game; gotta know how to play. 🙂

Will, my friends in Manitoba and BC tell me that most of the rest of Canada would like nothing more than to be rid of Quebec (“an irritating national hemorrhoid that you just can’t rid of” as my friend in Winnipeg says).

Would you say that this is a common sentiment? Just curious (many of us here in the Lower 48 feel that way about most of the Northeastern states).

It’s common out west. Here in Ontario, I think people just don’t care any more; less antipathy; more apathy.
