Woman Tired of Dating Marries Herself in Elaborate Ceremony

02 Feb

Or perhaps tired of not dating… 😉

After dating for several years and failing to find the man of her dreams, a 40-year-old woman from Houston, Texas, decided to marry herself in an elaborate ceremony that involved friends and family.

Yasmin Eleby’s wedding was quite similar to a traditional one, except the bride wore purple, there was no groom, and it was the bride’s mother, not her father who walked her down the aisle.  Since self-weddings aren’t legally recognized in the U.S., the ceremony – conducted by three ministers – was described as a spiritual one. Yasmin made heartfelt vows to forgive, honor, and love… herself!

LOL! Three ‘ministers’, and no groom! Sure, real similar to a traditional wedding… {/sarcasm}

Since she loves to travel, Yasmin now plans to go on an extended honeymoon by herself later this year, to Cambodia, Laos and Dubai.

Imagine the question, “So, where is your husband?”

“You’re looking at him!”

More on this story here:

Yes, Yasmin Eleby promised herself that if she hadn’t found a mate by the time she was 40, she would marry herself, and she kept her promise. What better way to start the year than with an act of self love?

Narcissism, indeed!

She says the best part of her special day was having her family there to “stand up” for her. Her other three sisters were bridesmaids and her mom gave her away; or back to herself in this case.

Had she ever gone away? 😉

Event Planner Darrell Colone chose the Houston Museum of African American Culture (HMAAC) because he was able to recreate the space, “so it was like an open canvass,” according to Colone. “It seems natural that they would choose this space,”  John Guess Jr. CEO of HMAAC said,   “since the community feels welcome here.”

I’m sure they do.

I didn’t realize a ‘self-marriage’ was about race, but everything in America today is…

Details on how this union was consummated will remain private

Nigga, please! ‘Nuff said, already!

“The ones in grey are all available.”

    Ummm….no thanks.

“Yasmin plans to go on an extended honeymoon this year by herself to Cambodia, Laos, and Dubai.”

And lots of American men plan to go abroad this year too, precisely to escape women like these.

    @ Eric: “Ummm….no thanks.”

    Yeah, I didn’t think there’d be any takers. 🙂

“And lots of American men plan to go abroad this year too, precisely to escape women like these.”

Fortunately, since she’s ‘married’, she’s taken, and so no man, foreign or American, need fear her chasing him. Right? (Hey, if she’s ‘unhappy’ later on, can she get a divorce, and alimony?)

In any case, even if she did chase some guy, I’d wager he could get a pretty good lead on her; I have a feeling she’d get winded quickly. 😉

Is it a new American trend? and what exactly is the point of marrying oneself???

Not yet a full-on trend in America, I hope! But it is one in Japan, apparently:

The point is narcissism, to have a special day, to wear a nice white dress, where everyone is focused on you, and an excuse for a party, celebrating yourself. Then a vacation trip somewhere for your honeymoon.

    That’s it.

    Pathetic, isn’t it?

Hey, black American women can be just as self-absorbed, narcissistic and solipsistic as white American women! 😉

But you have to pay all the expenses yourself, too!:)

Nah; you get mommy and daddy to pay! After all, there’s nothing an average American daddy wouldn’t do for his little ‘princess’! 😉

Many spoiled women don’t want marriages but the wedding itself so she can be the center of attention living out her princess like fantasies with the groom as an accessory.

      Exactly, infowarrior1!

They don’t call them ‘Bridezillas’ for nothing! 🙂

They truly are monsters, that kind of bitch.

She doesn’t strike me as the type who would be spoiled for choice when it comes to dating.

Someone who wrote about this on another blog brought up an interesting question: I wonder how the Game crowd would explain ‘hypergamy’ at work here—LOL

Hey, she thought she was the best she could do, and she went for it! 😉
