I reached out to the 20-year-old student at the center of this outrageous episode and the story he tells should serve as a warning to anyone who thinks religious schools are safe havens for open discourse.

The story was first reported on a blog run by a Marquette University professor and was picked up by the good folks over at The College Fix.

I agree; no good reason far as I can see, unless they go into a STEM field.

    Will:
it seems like these kinds of stories are becoming increasingly common. Do you think there’s an unofficial purge going on?

Hey Eric, I don’t know if it’s coordinated, or just instincts; I suspect the latter; see Joseph Sobran’s ‘The Hive’ model for how leftists seem to coordinate without central control or planning.

By ‘instincts’, I mean a form of coordination without being deliberately planned.

Is there even any such thing as a “Catholic” university anymore (i.e., one that defends the faith)? I’m hardpressed to name a single one.

funny how the ‘professor’ spoke for the students saying “we all agree on this”. Makes voicing our reactionary opinions all the more important, proving people like this wrong. No, many of us DO NOT agree with this filth.

re: coordination, in an earlier blog post the prof noted a mandatory anti-harassment presentation at Marquette that said criticism of gay marriage is offensive and could be harassment. The presentation shares an understanding with new EEOC rules which hold that it is an illegal stereotype to act on the belief that men should marry women. : http://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/catholic-profs-told-to-report-opposition-to-gay-marriage-as-harassment-29598/

So we could be witnessing a trickle-down effect of bureaucratic coordination.
