*Updated: Love at first flight: ‘Katie from Nova Scotia’ sought by Irish Romeo

02 Aug

*Update: It appears my cynicism was misplaced, in this case; see update at the bottom, and the pingback (at the end of the comments section, now closed) to my follow-up post over at my Will S.’ Sunny Side Blog. Comments welcome over there! 🙂

It’s the exact reverse of the situation of that Canadian dentist who sought (and failed) to find a missed connection with an Irishwoman:

A summer vacation in Europe has thrown a Nova Scotia woman into the spotlight in Ireland — and she likely doesn’t even know it.

Not likely; she doesn’t. Trust me.

The mystery woman is named Katie and she seems to have won the heart of an Irishman on a plane.

Katie what? We got lots of Katies…

Last Thursday, Jamie Kelly boarded a Ryanair flight from Barcelona to Dublin.

He noticed a pretty woman sitting in the row behind him and offered up the free seats in his row.

“We started chatting and hit it off. I think we made a connection anyways,” said the 24-year-old from Galway.

You didn’t get her phone number / email address; she was just passing time, dude…

He became separated from her as they went through customs and couldn’t find her around the luggage carousel.

If you’d gotten her number / email, that wouldn’t have mattered. But you didn’t. A missed connection is a lost connection; you should let it go…

His friends started a social media campaign for her with the hashtag #loveatfirstflight.

Your friends are loyal and kind-hearted, but they’re as naïve as you…

He knows she’s named Katie — at least, that’s the name she gave him — and she has three siblings. She’s 27 and in Ireland this week.

Well, at least you know that much, unlike your Canadian counterpart who chased that Irish girl; you do have a chance of finding her, and likely disturbing her; or perhaps she’ll learn about it and hide…

Kelly’s search story aired on national Irish radio Friday morning.

Yes, she’ll hear about it, and likely be creeped about your public stalking campaign, even if flattered…

“I originally looked for her Facebook and couldn’t find her. And I went to the airline and they couldn’t do anything for me. So then I went on the [Ray] D’Arcy show today and they couldn’t find her.”

Of course the airline can’t give out personal information!

Kelly hopes to find Katie — and that she’s not too embarrassed by the fuss.

I have a feeling she will be; again, even if flattered…

It’s spelled ‘Canadian’, not ‘Canadien’, you moron; there are few French-Canadians in Nova Scotia, and the ones who called themselves ‘les Canadiens’, the Quebecois, haven’t called themselves that in centuries…

Anyway, let it go, Jamie Kelly; you missed your chance. A missed connection is a lost connection…

*Update: It looks like they’re going to be making contact:

We’ll see if she accepts, or declines politely. 🙂

Perhaps I am too cynical. I wish them well. 🙂

Maybe Mr. Blaine thinks she’s a member of Montreal’s NHL team. 😉
