watch out, Will, and enjoy the pig roast now.

Local supermarkets where Muslims work have started to eliminate things like Roast Pork from the prepared foods counter. coming soon to a needlessly multicultural Canadian town near you!

    Oh yes, it was great!

Best part – it, and the rest of the food, and the beer, were all free! (It was a by-invitation party.)

Some parts of that pig look slightly undercooked.

Yes, I see some pink which should be white; but none of the meat carved and served up appeared undercooked, so that’s okay.

    You’re welcome.

Interesting: the people of Papua both eat pork AND practice ritual circumcision (of young adults, not infants).

Speaking of that part of the world, and pigs, there is a variety of pig there, the babirusa, which was thought to have a ruminant stomach system, and back in the late 80s there was much speculation that it might be kosher. But subsequent investigation has revealed its stomach is like that of other pigs, and so is not kosher. Too bad for Jews – and presumably Muslims, if halal has similar standards – no pork for them, still…

Thank you Will for the linkage and all the pics of pork reminded me of the past couple of years spent in Germany. There’s a saying there, “Everything in Germany has some pig in it”. and if you spent much time there you’ll realize it’s true.

    @ BP: Hey, you’re welcome.

Germany sounds like what I’ve heard about the southern U.S., too; lots of pork in everything there, too; I do know that at Cracker Barrel restaurants, even the turnip greens are flavoured with pork, and at Popeye’s, the red beans are flavoured with ham.

Mmm, gotta love the noble pig. 🙂
