Many women hate men’s pastimes and ‘vices’; feminists simply encourage the age-old prejudices

01 Jun

Carrie A. Nation, the infamous hatchet-bearing teetotalitarian fanatic bitch who smashed bars to bits

Thanks to bskillet, I came across an excellent blast by David French against another of those endless, annoying “guys are wasting their lives on porn and video games” articles, in which he noted:

Look, I know that many, many men and boys spend too much time gaming.  There are also many, many men and boys who spend too much time watching television, playing golf,  or obsessing over sports (and sometimes all of the above) — you name the diversion, and you’ll find people who indulge in excess.  But it’s a category error to equate games and porn.  To do so exaggerates the danger of games and minimizes the evil of porn.  So if I stay up too late Saturday night playing Diablo 3 (and I probable will!), is that remotely comparable to downloading porn?  Simply put, overuse of video games is destructive.  Any use of porn is sinful. What’s next?  An article proclaiming that women are ruined by adultery and Pinterest?

Of course, men don’t attack women over their pastimes, typically; they may tease them, sometimes, but it is highly rare to hear men go on a tear at their wives or girlfriends about liking various womenly pastimes and hobbies.

But many women, on the other hand, have often disliked things men like to do without them, and I think these ‘Man up, and stop playing video games!’ diatribes are another manifestation of such age-old female tendencies.  (Obviously, from a Christian perspective, porn is evil, and French is right to distinguish between porn and video games.  But all too many non-gaming women seem to see the latter as being as evil as the former…)

Hunting and fishing are prime examples of male pastimes women attack; I suspect part of the reason that the animal rights movement has gotten as much traction as it has, is due to female opposition to hunting, less out of caring for ‘Bambi’s being slaughtered than out of annoyance with men for doing something with ‘the boys’, i.e. that doesn’t involve them – but ending up cloaked under the self-righteous, moralistic rubric of ‘animal rights’…

Sports is another, of course.  Why do feminists attack football (esp. the Superbowl) so virulently, if not because (a) they do hate men’s sports, and (b) they know less radical women will sympathize with them, so it’s a way to influence them.  Sadly, Christian women buy into the whole anti-male-sports thing as much as anyone else; I know a pastor’s wife who always gets on a rant if the subject of golf comes up; she hates it with a passion…

And there are many others, from poker, to racecar-driving, and more, all of which come in for much condemnation from the opposite sex.

Then there are male ‘vices’ which women are less interested in / not interested in, which are commonly attacked by many women purely because men like them.  I put vices in quotation marks there, because I’m not referring to actual sins, like pornography, but habits and practices women consider vices.  The biggest example is alcohol; women in North America are less inclined to imbibe as much as alcohol, and as a result, they often razz their boyfriends / husbands about their drinking, and in pietistic evangelical and other Christian circles, often try to manipulate them into quitting, threatening to not marry them unless they give it up.  And most married North American men can forget about going out to the pub with their mates, all that often; many of them get shamed into largely quitting doing so; pubs and bars are typically dominated by young singles and divorcees / unmarried folks; sports bars still have enough married men, but you can bet their wives are largely unhappy they’re there.

Tobacco is another, to a lesser degree, because many women smoke cigarettes.  But I’ve noticed, even amongst those that do, some have a visceral hatred of other forms of tobacco that are more common with men, like smoking cigars, or chewing tobacco, and moist snuff, and the like.  Interestingly enough, through the 19th century up until the early 20th century, the most common form of partaking of tobacco in North America was chewing tobacco.  But as Alex Jones noted in a video 7man linked here, in the ‘flapper era’, companies making cigarettes began especially targetting women, esp. the flappers, and now, cigarette smoking has largely replaced chewing tobacco, as the most common form of tobacco consumption, worldwide.  And pipe-smoking has almost died out, while cigar-smoking has waned, compared with how widespread it was previously.  And only a smattering of men still do dipping snuff or chewing tobacco, and lesser still, nasal snuff; most women today find such practices disgusting, if and when they hear of them, in my observation.

I’m not sure whether women’s habit of attacking men’s pastimes and ‘vices’ is just shit-testing, or jealousy over time and attention not spent on them, or a combo thereof.  But it’s been around forever, and probably always will be.

To return to the topic of the shaming over video games, I think it’s part of the same dynamic at work, but with a difference, of course: the men in question aren’t actually with the women doing the bitching about them; they’re being scorned for foregoing dating such women in favour of other activities.  But still, strikes me as part and parcel of the same age-old complaints; the unfortunate thing is, because of bitching about video games, or attacking football, etc., feminism gets much traction amongst ordinary women, even Christian women, because in bitching about such, they tap into the age-old anti-male-pastimes tendencies of many women.

I know VERY few men who would choose video games over a good round of sex…. maybe married women (womyn?) should quit complaining and give their men a worthwhile alternative if they don’t like their recreational activities. If the ladies in question insist on keeping their knees crossed then they should be ecstatic if their husbands interests turn to nothing more dangerous than video games.

I was more commenting on unmarried women’s lament about men and video games, though no doubt some married women bitch about such pastimes, too. Like you said, they only have themselves to blame…

Any time spent gaming is time spent not working to make ourselves attractive alphas or productive betas for women’s benefit. Of course they don’t like it.
[EA: OK, you Canuck, you just earned yourself a reading assignment. Go get the book Willpower and read the chapter on gaming. In fact, it is great training in the ways of Alpha. Free Northerner, thank you for pointing that out; I believe you are quite correct. I have to admit it, I’ve done it myself in the past (but I’m confessing it was wrong, so don’t jump on me!); when I see my husband doing something like reading or puttering about with his wood-working, I feel this urge to control his actions. I feel like, “Hey, shouldn’t he being doing something useful?” (I mean besides that 60-hour work week he puts in). I feel this irrational urge to start a quarrel with him, and I used to do it, too, but now I don’t because I know that I’m in the wrong. Usually, when I feel that way (I guess it might be what’s called fitness testing?), I will mentally start to list all the things he has done for his family in the past week/month, which usually quiets down that weird desire to b*tch at him. Sometimes I’ll tell him, “Hey, I’m going down to run on the treadmill; do you want to come with me and lift weights so that I have someone to talk to?” Usually he says ok. So, yeah, apparently I want him to either be a) working out to make himself attractive/alpha or b) doing some crap around the house to make himself a productive beta. I’m not sure I can control feeling that way, but I can definitely control what comes out of my mouth. I think it might be helpful to point out to women that they can’t really control how they feel about their husbands’/boyfriends’ hobbies, but they can work on bridling their tongues.

@ Jennifer: Ask the women who bitch about men playing video games.

@ Free Northerner: Exactly! Just so.

@ Sunshine: Thanks for your testimony about the matter here. If I may quote myself from this post:

During a series of sermons on Genesis, my pastor remarked once, offhand, that though the sentence in the second half of Genesis 3:16 is usually translated as “Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.”, it actually can be translated as “You will desire to control your husband, but he will rule over you.”, which is how the New Living Translation actually puts it.

IOW, right from the beginning, as a result of the Fall, God pronounced that women would try to rule men, emotionally manipulate them into acting the way they want, shit-test them, etc.; that they would try to control them, even though it is their place to be ruled by their husbands, as per the result of the Fall (though their place, pre-Fall, was still to be ‘an help-meet’ for their husbands, but it didn’t require control in the same way it now does).

So, the Book of Genesis anticipated the endless ‘struggle’ of the sexes, that has necessarily flowed from the Fall, and that will continue till the end of time.

This means, I suppose, that even Christian women can’t help but feel the desire to rule their husbands, to tell them what to do or think – but like you said, one doesn’t have to say anything, one can hold one’s tongue…

I like this comment of Chris‘, over at TC, so much, I’m reproducing it in its entirety:

Ah, prohibition. The original form of feminism. It had three core assumptions shared by the current culture.

    1. Women are the source of all virtue.
    2. Men are evil, and the source of all harm.
    3. If we can adjust society, men will not be evil, and all will be well.

This is a distortion of the puritan doctrines around men being sinful (because the Puritans saw women as just as sinful) and the need to use society to minimize vice (which the puritans took too far in the Cromwellian military dictatorship). It moves towards the heretical notion that we can develop a perfect society on this earth, at this time.

Men and women have always used substances to excess. We no longer ban alcohol — correctly. But we ban a whole pile of things the Victorians used frequently: opium, cocaine, marihuana (“Indian hemp” — legend has it that Queen Victoria used it for pain).

Pragmatically, Regulation and taxation are simply more effective.

The problem with blaming it all on men, drunken men… is that it puts women on a pedestal from which they admire their virtue — instead of noting that they have their own vices that need just as much reformation. Looking at the picture of the hatchet wielding harridan, one suspects that pride and wrath were her sins of choice.

Me? I’d legalize the lot of them.

(WS: As would I, as previously discussed…)

Two excellent quoteables from EW, here and here:

[Carrie Nation] was also a proto-feminist, as was common among the female supremacist, Christian Temperance types of the time. She just has this penis-envy look to her.

    […]

More goodies about Ms. Nation. Biography: Carry Nation.

Key quote: “Men are nicotine-soaked, beer-besmirched, whiskey-greased, red-eyed devils”. Apparently, she ardently disagreed with her estranged preacher husband’s sermons and presumed to write them herself.

How does that Proverb go? “Better to live on a corner of your roof…”

    June 2, 2012 at 2:42 am

    Gotta Love, love google Images.

Interesting that you started the Proverb, because if you look at today’s lectionary

    Proverbs 25:15-28

15 With patience a ruler may be persuaded, and a soft tongue can break bones.

16 If you have found honey, eat only enough for you, or else, having too much, you will vomit it.

17 Let your foot be seldom in your neighbor’s house, otherwise the neighbor will become weary of you and hate you.

18 Like a war club, a sword, or a sharp arrow is one who bears false witness against a neighbor.

19 Like a bad tooth or a lame foot is trust in a faithless person in time of trouble.

20 Like vinegar on a wound is one who sings songs to a heavy heart. Like a moth in clothing or a worm in wood, sorrow gnaws at the human heart.

    21 If your enemies are hungry, give them bread to eat; and if they are thirsty, give them water to drink;

22 for you will heap coals of fire on their heads, and the LORD will reward you.

23 The north wind produces rain, and a backbiting tongue, angry looks.

24 It is better to live in a corner of the housetop than in a house shared with a contentious wife.

25 Like cold water to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.

26 Like a muddied spring or a polluted fountain are the righteous who give way before the wicked.

27 It is not good to eat much honey, or to seek honor on top of honor.

28 Like a city breached, without walls, is one who lacks self-control.

So if the preacher tomorrow starts shaming men about not making their woman lurve them, suggest that doing other things — going to the shed or the corner of the rooftop — is not only wise, but also biblical.

Thanks for the mention, Will. I’ll add that I think a lot of female opposition comes from not only their empathy/sympathy for Bambi, but their innate, reflexive opposition to firearms.

This, plus a conviction that women in our society are more morally upright than men (at least that I’ve observed), merely adds to the desire to control.

    June 2, 2012 at 9:04 am

    Hey, EW, you’re welcome.

Yes, a lot of women recoil at even the sight of firearms. I remember once, I was over at a friend’s house, and he was showing me his hunting rifles, we were having a couple beers, and a girl I had some interest in came over for lunch, and when she saw us, drinking cans of beer, looking through rifle scopes, she stopped cold, startled. It was most revealing; I later quizzed her about her thoughts on drinking, and she said she saw nothing wrong with “the occasional beer”, IOW, she believed in setting limits on her man; I wrote her off immediately. 🙂

Yes, that whole Victorian notion that women are morally superior, has been preserved and encouraged by feminism, as well as by neocon social conservatives, who end up buying into feminism’s tenets without even realizing it…

CL said something also said something here worth sharing, on the subject:

It seems if a man has a beer or two, certain women think he’s a raging alcoholic. If it’s not effecting your productivity or making you impotent or something, what’s the big deal over a drink or three? Again, it’s a lack of trust in a man to be able to control himself.

Ever since The Fall, it has been difficult for women to trust men; even their husbands, alas…

“I’ll add that I think a lot of female opposition comes from not only their empathy/sympathy for Bambi, but their innate, reflexive opposition to firearms.”

Take out the word “innate” and I might agree with this, but probably not. It entirely depends on how and where the girl was raised. In my neck of the woods, guns are common. More males than females shoot, but plenty of girls do too. This VERY day in fact, I attended an 8-hour event called Women on Target sponsored by the NRA. In addition to shooting all the standard stuff (.22s of every kind, .38 specials, 9 mm, 45 cals, 12 gauge shotguns, 20 gauge shotguns, assault rifles, archery, etc), we also got the chance to shoot a fully auto uzi (they would only let us do it semi-auto, though) AND a 460. One shot on the 460 was enough for most of us…my shoulder still freakin’ hurts. The class was completely full (70 women) with a long waiting list. Nope, no wide-spread reflexive opposition to firearms in the state of Michigan. 🙂 I recommend that you shun any woman who is vocally anti-gun.

“And no doubt there are some interesting conspiracy theories about that.”

I don’t think one need resort to conspiracy theories to explain it; most of said women are secularists, after all, not religious Jews, and as secularists, failed to understand the most important reason for patriarchy – because it’s God’s idea, part of His plan for the human race – and additionally, many are from fairly well-off socio-economic backgrounds, so no doubt that played a role, as well; I think it’s the coming together of various factors, including geography – New York City, in many or even most cases – that have led to that particular group giving rise to many feminists within its ranks…

“Will, have you read much or any E Michael Jones? He is interesting on ethnic conflict in urban America and the dispersal of the Catholic neighbourhoods. I thought it was pretty well considered, but some people say he has become a nutty antiSemite.”

I’ve heard of him, and probably read an article or two by him, but not much. I probably should check out his work; I do find theorists about ethnicity, etc. quite interesting.

BTW, incidentally, as mentioned in one of the articles EW linked, David Nation did end up divorcing her on grounds of ‘cruelty and desertion’ – she hadn’t let him travel with her, and they had no children – she had come to oppose ‘lustful marriage’…

She had utterly dominated him, throughout their marriage:

“Carry was a strong-willed and domineering person who was not pleased with her husband’s preaching.

She therefore decided to guide and instruct his work. Not only did she tell him what text to use, but she sometimes wrote his sermons, including in them attacks on tobacco and liquor and other iniquities. While he preached, she sat in a front row and acted as helper, instructing him to raise or lower his voice, to speak slower or faster, and to make proper facial motions. When she decided he had exhausted his subject, she might step into the aisle and declare: “That will be about all for today, David!” Sometimes he would fail to quit speaking whereupon she would walk to the pulpit, shut his Bible, hand him his hat and tell him to go home.”

She was a vile woman, through and through:

“Her attacks weren’t really simply because the saloons were in violation of the law, it was simply because they sold alcohol. She would go into a pharmacy that legally sold alcohol by prescription for medical purposes and destroy it. At times, she would attack the individuals who sold the alcohol.”

“The anti-Semitic Carry’s strong opposition to fraternal orders, tobacco, foreign foods, fine clothing, corsets, and skirts of “improper length” subjected her to ridicule. Undeterred, she called her opponents “rum-soaked, whiskey-swilled, saturn-faced rummies,”26 grabbed cigarettes and cigars from smokers, and ridiculed well-dressed people.27 It did not help that she applauded the assassination of President William McKinley in 1901 because she believed that he secretly drank alcohol and that drinkers always got what they deserved.”

She was initially buried in an unmarked grave, but “The WCTU later erected a large gravestone with her name and the quote: “Faithful to the Cause, She Hath Done What She Could.”35 The house Nation had owned in Medicine Lodge was bought by the WCTU in the 1950s and is now a National Historic Landmark.”

Personally, I think that WCTU gravestone should be smashed to bits and her house burned down, if I had my druthers. A person like that shouldn’t be commemorated, except in contempt.

The oddest thing I’ve noticed about this trend in journalism is that it makes the supposedly large number of women gamers (and porn users too?) invisible in favor of safely hating on men. Now if someone were to suggest that males were the majority of the market and that therefore most games should reflect that majority’s desires, then out comes the tidal wave of vocal women gamers with statistics and stories of how they so enjoy what they do when it comes to videogaming. In other words, gaming becomes good when women take it over, but will be the work of Diablo (pun intended) until then.

She did have descendants from her first marriage. Her grandson, C.O. Foerster, Jr, was a renowned wine-grape breeder!

she had come to oppose ‘lustful marriage’…

A true feminist. Stop that awful nasty PIV, men might enjoy it and the species might continue…

@ VR: My mistake, re: David and Carrie Nation not having children; that’s hilarious! 🙂

Yes, how horrible that spouses might find they enjoy sex, and continue the species; I guess stopping procreation altogether might be a way to hasten Christ’s return, so maybe that was their ‘logic’… 😉

Agreed, re: hunting. Any woman who hates hunting, will buy into other misandrist nonsense, too.

Secondhand smoke is a real health problem, so I can see that, but hunting? Really? It pales in comparison to mass-produced meat and poultry, which is fed by mass-produced corn which raises unhealthy animals (and whose meat is bad to eat because of that). The rest of the complaints don’t even make sense unless that’s the only thing someone does, ever, outside of work. But it’s not like women don’t watch plenty of TV or waste time shopping, either, so they’re not ones to talk. Secondhand smoke is the only real issue here.

“I put vices in quotation marks there, because I’m not referring to actual sins, like pornography, but habits and practices women consider vices. The biggest example is alcohol; women in North America are less inclined to imbibe as much as alcohol, and as a result, they often razz their boyfriends / husbands about their drinking…”

Sublimely comical, as there actually are biblical condemnations against being a drunk, but I’ve never yet found any biblical support for the idea that masturbating to pictures or depictions of naked women singly,or in engaging in sex acts with others, can send you to hell.

Indeed; not directly, at least, though lust is condemned / condemnable.

There are plenty of biblical prohibitions against fornication and lust. Both fornication and adultery were capital crimes in the Torah—for women *and* men.

Yes, I know; and I never said anything to the contrary; I referred to them as actual sins, if you reread my article, you’ll see that.

Not sure what your point is. We agree, both recognizing that.

This is an old post but here it goes…..
So much of this is situational, but it’s all a shit test.

I drink. A lot. I drink bourbon on the rocks and moonshine. Its a non issue with women and more then a few have made positive comments on what I drink. Stroll up to the bar an order a beer; note the lady bartenders reaction. Stroll up to the bar and order a Makers Mark on the rocks; note her reaction. Beer is a common status maker. Ho hum stuff. Whiskey straight up sends a message that beer and Jack and Coke doesn’t. Lets not even think about what ordering girly drinks like Long Island Ice Tea’s say about you

I smoke. A lot, but I smoke cigars and a pipe. Cigarets are another common, ho mum or low status marker. A cigar or pipe says the opposite and I’ve only had one girl refuse a night at the cigar bar (she has sever asthma). Do you think George Colony had issues getting laid even though he’s an avid Cigar smoker? Those dudes riding bulls and chewing tobacco aren’t having any problems pulling ass either.

Watching sports is lame. Anyone can do it. Golf is some weak ass shit any pansy can play. Compete in something yourself, something that clearly establishes your physical dominance over other men and girls no longer bitch about your hobby.

Gambling is also an either or kind of thing. It can be a display of excessive wealth and reckless risk taking, or a display of skill and daring or something lame and beta. If she is bitching about your gambling, she see’s it and you as beta. If you have big money to play big stakes poker, or you play poker at the semi professional/ professional level, you won’t here much bitching. Chicks don’t understand how much studying etc it takes to be successful at sports betting and simply see you as getting lucky. That dries up the vagina. Same with $5 bets at Vegas or penny poker with your buds. Because that type of gambling doesn’t display wealth, skill or risk taking she simply sees it as wasting your money. Money/ resources that should be spent on her

I’ve yet to have a woman react negatively about my job, gun ownership and hunting. This applies to all the anti war hippy chicks I have banged in Raleigh. A vegan girl I was banging once told me game harvested by your own hands was the only ethical meat eating. I have never had staunch anti gun chicks bitch about me owning so many of them. They always come up with some lame version of “its different with you, you’re trained and professional” etc. Hell I’ve had chicks who said equal rights for queers was the most important thing to them keep spreading their legs for me when I say that queers are useless drains on society and should stay in the fucking closet

A chicks morality is flexible. It all depends on who/ what makes her tingle.

As to why women do this attacking male hobbies #1 its a shit test #2 women are (generally speaking) incapable of being happy and love to spread the misery. What little capacity for happiness they do have is over shadowed by a lack of understanding that someone might take pleasure in something they themselves do not. Its back to solipsisms. Women are not complex, just convoluted. It is rarely difficult to figure out why they do or don’t do something if you keep the basic Red Pill intell in mind while you peel back the layers.

Women just don’t want men to have fun without them. Period.
Women are extremely self-absorbed and entitled. It’s not necessarily completely their fault. It’s biology, they’re the ones that have the children and thus take priority when it comes to who should survive in our primal subconscious minds. Men have to protect women and sacrifice themselves if needs be for their wife and children.

This primal evolutionary role in our subconscious leads to women’s innate sense of entitlement. They’re designed to be good at multitasking and controlling all the variables in their environment related to the survival of their offspring. Thus women are extremely controlling with men, who are another variable in their survival matrix.
Constant nagging, mind games and going to great lengths to prevent men going out and having fun, potentially meeting new social circles and contacts they can’t control is a high priority for women.

There’s small wonder with the engineered feminist nonsense and this innate female trait that many men cheat and don’t want to get married.

Here’s something interesting: the guy who wrote the tobacco buildboard text was a flat-earther:
