Photography interlude: the Canadian Rockies

10 Dec

I lived in Alberta for four years, early in the last decade, and I had lots of time to enjoy the beautiful scenery there and in neighbouring B.C.  Alas, I didn’t take nearly as many pictures as I should have; I wasn’t as into photography as much at that time in my life as I am now (my digital camera, obtained four years ago, was a big inspiration), or as I was earlier in my life.  Anyway, here are some pics from Alberta, and one from B.C., in the Canadian Rockies, taken way back in 2003.

Mount Robson; Mount Robson Provincial Park, British Columbia

Tangle Falls; Jasper National Park, Alberta

The Athabasca Glacier; Columbia Icefield, at the Continental Divide (Great Divide); Jasper National Park, Alberta

Moraine Lake; Banff National Park, Alberta

Lake Louise, with Mount Victoria in the background; Banff National Park, Alberta

    Aggh! Time stamps! 😛

That waterfall one almost looks like a painting. I have a lot of things where I think, “why didn’t I take more pictures?”

Did you ever make it to the south of the province and take in the Crowsnest Pass? Alberta south of Calgary is a very different place than the rest of the province, poor, rural, backward in many ways, so “outsiders” often forget that the best ranges are actually in the Crowsnest Pass.

@ CL: Now everyone knows what I was doing on June 6, 7, and July 1, 2003. 🙂

I now try to remember to take my camera everywhere, whenever I leave home, apart from going to work… That way, it’s always there if I see anything worth capturing.

@ YBM: Oh yes; I wish I’d had my camera with me when I visited the Frank Slide; that is awe-inspiring, indeed.

    @ 7man: Indeed, they are. 🙂
@ CL: Most appropriate; good old Canadian yodeller Wilf Carter / Montana Slim. Thanks!
